Sybil Jean Rice, widow of Wade D. Rice, daughter of the late Harold and Jannie Ann H. Thornton, passed Wednesday, September 8, 2021.

She was a graduate of Bethune High School.  She was a life long member of Mt. Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church where she ushered until her health declined.  She became a home maker and a mother of three daughter.  Later in life she was able to get certified as a Nursing Assistant, where she worked in the field for over 17 years.  She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, watching TV,  puzzles, playing solitaire or just sitting outside chatting with her neighborhood friends and family, just loving life!

Left to carry on the legacy and loving memories of Sybil Jean, her daughters, Teresa Diane (Larry) Craig Walker of Travelers Rest, SC, Coretta Denise (George Grayson) Rice and Stacy Annette Rice both of Greer, SC; five sisters, Viola Thornton, Hazel Thornton, Cora Miller and Margaret (John Sr.) Smith all of Greer, SC and Dolly Thornton (Curtis) Doggett of Chesnee, SC; one brother, Jerry (Mammie) Thornton of Campobello, SC; six grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; two nieces, eight nephews and a host of other family and friends.

Along with her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister Helen Elizabeth Ballenger, two nephews, Christopher E. Thornton and John E. Smith, Jr. and one niece, Mary L. Mack.

Funeral service will be Sunday, September 19, 2021 1:00 PM at Mt. Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.  Viewing will take place one hour prior to service. No window viewing at the mortuary.

The Rice family is being cared for by Sullivan Bros. Mortuary Inc.
