Mr. Silas Gist, Jr., widower of Annie Katie J. Gist, son of the late Silas and Cornelia R. Gist, Sr., passed Monday, June 7, 2021 peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was a member and trustee of New Hope Baptist Church; also as a member of the church he sang on the All Male Choir. He was a graduate of Dunbar High School. After high school, his life lead him in to the United States Army (Korean War). After being honorable discharged and coming back home he began to work at J. P Stevens in Taylors. He is a member of Lower Shady Grove Masonic Lodge # 291. In his spare time he love gardening, cooking, baking and canning preserves. He was a secretary of the Piney Mountain Bible Study group. He was a member of the Brotherhood Association and the North Enoree Association.
His memories will forever be cherished in the hearts of his daughter, Kathy Sullivan of Lyman, SC; son, Douglas (Doris) Scott of Wellford, SC; his brother, Odis Gist of Greenville, SC; 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; son in law, Rev. Harold Moon, Sr., of Mauldin, SC; and a host of other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, JoAnn Gist, siblings, Viola Gist, Azelee Gist, Rosella G. Greer, James Gist and Henry Gist; his grandchildren, James Doby and Douglas L. Scott.
Funeral service will be Sunday, June 13, 2021 at New Hope Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Service will begin with military honors. Mask required for entry!
