Shirley Ann Dawkins was born in Greenville SC, August 16, 1949. She was the daughter of the late Hattie Lee Dawkins and John Thomas Dawkins.
Shirley was a graduate of Lincoln High School class of 1967 in Taylors, South Carolina. Before leaving the workforce due to illness in the late 90's, she worked in both the textile and hospitality industries.
Shirley was a member of Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she sang on the choir.
Shirley was a deeply spiritual woman who spent her spare time, watching, reading and studying the word of God. She left behind a vast collection of spiritual study materials. She was a lover of the arts. She enjoyed visiting museums and reading books on art history. Her taste in television included a great love for classic movies. She could discuss classic movies in great depth. She loved and appreciated almost all genres of music. Games shows were also one of her great loves. She loved to watch Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune and Family Feud.
Shirley had a strong, courageous, and beautiful spirit. She had a deep love for her friends and family. She stayed in regular contact with both friends and family. She was a hardworking and very wise woman who taught her children to love God, work hard and value family.
She leaves to cherish precious memories her children: Brian Dawkins (Tanya) of El Paso, Texas and Stephanie Dawkins of Simpsonville, SC; 3 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren of Killeen, Texas. Sisters: Sharon (Henry) Burgess of Easley, SC; Dianne Alexander (David) of Spartanburg, SC ; Peggy Bowman of New Haven, Ct; Doretha Bowman of New Haven, Ct; JoAnn Nancy Braggs of New Haven, Ct; and brothers: John Troy Dawkins; Cecil (Debria) Burgess both of Greenville, SC.; Tommy Braggs (Gina) of Augusta, GA; Sam Braggs of Jacksonville, NC; Jeffery Anderson of New Haven, Ct; Lee Anderson of Greenville, SC; Freeman Anderson of New Haven Ct, and David Anderson of New Haven Ct, close friend Flora Miller Edwards of Taylors SC; a close cousin Shirley Landrum of Spartanburg SC; a great niece Kiara Dawkins, Greenville, SC and nephew Rico Dawkins (Deanne), Atlanta Georgia. She left behind a host of other nieces, nephews and cousins.
