Rose Alice
Maybin
March 19, 1943 – May 10, 2024
Duncan, South Carolina
On May 10, 2024, Rose Alice Maybin, a beacon of light, joy, love, strength
and a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin
and friend went home to be with her Lord and Savior.
Rose is survived in legacy and will be sorely missed as the Loving Mother of
Isaiah Maybin Jr. of Spartanburg, SC; Kenneth Maybin (Rinda) of Inman, SC;
and Timothy Maybin (Sonya) of Fountain Inn, SC. Proud Grandmother of
Montrel Maybin of Lillington, NC and Kenneth Maybin Jr. of Wellford, SC
and Antonio Williams-Maybin, Greenville, SC. Great-grandmother of three of
Wellford, SC, and a Steadfast Sister to Ruth Tinsley of Inman, SC and Sallie
Tinsley of Wellford, SC along with a host of devoted nieces, nephews cousins
and friends.
Rose (as she was affectionately known), was born March 19, 1943, in Spartanburg,
SC. Rose was the second born in the union of four children, (the oldest girl)
from the late Willis Tinsley and Ida Mae Tinsley. Education was important to
Rose, where she attended Mary McCloud Bethune Elementary and High School
in Inman, SC graduating in 1962. As a working adult, her career encompassed
school bus driver, seamstress, health care worker, and school custodian.
Rose's unwavering commitment to her faith, is evident through her longstanding
dedication to Upper Shady Grove Baptist Church, where she
was a member for over 50 years and a trustee for over
30 years. She was also involved with the Order of
the Eastern Stars, Pride of Spartanburg Chapter
98 for 56 years, reflecting a life guided
by spiritual principles and community
service.
Rose moved to Duncan, SC in1970. She provided a living example of her
favorite Bible verse, Ephesians 4:3-
"And be kind and compassionate
to one another forgiving one
another just as God also forgave
you in Christ", to her three
sons. She treasured "Her Boys"
and embraced every moment
with them. Family was the
cornerstone of Rose's life, she was
a pillar of strength for her family,
offering consistent support and
wisdom that guided them through
life's challenges and celebrations
alike.
Throughout her life, Rose was known for her vivacious spirit and her love of the outdoors.
She loved to bake cakes from scratch and kept an immaculate house. She found peace
and fulfillment in walking through the lush landscapes of South Carolina and tending to
her flower gardens, where she cultivated not only plants but also friendships with those
who shared her passion. Rose's garden was a metaphor for her life—full of color, growth,
and the beauty of change with each passing season. To echo the words of the great poet
Maya Angelou, "Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud." Rose was indeed that rainbow,
bringing color and hope to others even on their darkest days. Her presence was a vivid
reminder that love and kindness have the power to transform lives.
Not only did Rose cherish traveling, gardening, fishing and human friendships,
she loved her fur babies. Rose volunteered at several animal walking events to
raise money to care for dogs. She treasured the memories for Cool Breeze and
Buster and could be seen on weekends with her fur-grands: T.J (Timothy Jr.), L.A.
(Little Antonio) and Lulu Maybin.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents Willis and Ida Mae Tinsley, and brother
Roy Lee Tinsley Sr. The fond memories of her love and compassion will remain in the
hearts and minds of her family, friends, loved ones and those whose lives she touched.
As we bid farewell to Rose Alice Maybin, her enduring optimism and profound
love for life leave a lasting impression. Her spirit will live on in the gardens she
tended, the paths she walked, and the countless lives she touched. We take
comfort in knowing that her journey was a full one, marked by the richness of
experiences and the warmth of companionship. She will be dearly missed, but
her legacy will bloom eternally in the gardens of our hearts.
