Obituary

Stockbridge, GA

God, in His ultimate wisdom, chose to fill an empty space in His heavenly flower garden. Without warning on November 17, 2019, He plucked a flower from our garden and called Rebecca "Becky" Hodge Pearson from earth to Heaven's reward. We find comfort in God's decision, because He chooses only the best.

Rebecca was the beloved first child, born to the late W.C. "Papa" and Johnnie Mae Perry Hodge on February 9, 1939.

At an early age, Rebecca accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior and united with Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Haleburg, Alabama. Rebecca was educated in the Henry County School system. At the age of 18, she moved to Jacksonville, Florida and began her life as a young adult. With the purpose of seeking different employment opportunities, she moved to New York where she received her certification as a licensed Beautician.

As time moved on, her life took a completely different turn, a new chapter was unfolded as she met and married the love of her life, Booker T. Pearson, Jr. on September 28, 1968. There were no biological children born to this union, but they had many nieces, nephews and others whom they called their own. While growing her business as a license beautician, she knew that success was not measured by acquiring great wealth, but through dedication and hard work. Following this example, she gained employment with Sharp Pharmaceuticals in West Caldwell, New Jersey and remained there until retirement.

Seeking a simpler way of life, Becky along with her husband, moved to his hometown of Greer, South Carolina where they enjoyed a happy retired life. Having a strong commitment with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ she united with Upper Shady Grove Baptist Church where she was an active, faithful and dedicated member.

Upon the death of her husband, Becky moved to Stockbridge, Georgia to be closer to family. Remembering the church covenant, she then united with True Believer's Ministries Church of God in Christ where she was known as "Mother Pearson".

Three brothers, Rudon Hodge, Hamp Hodge and Leon Hodge, preceded her in death.

She leaves to cherish her memory: two sisters: Jackie Williams of Newark, NJ and LaCrecia Hodge (John) of Montclair, NJ; two brothers, Lamar Hodge, (Maudie) of Jonesboro, GA and Eugene Hodge (Paulene) of Bronx, NY; two sister-in-laws Carrie Hodge of Dothan AL and Winnona (Coleman) Haughbrook of Tampa, Fla; two brother in laws, Lamar Rudy (Elnora) and Reginald (Christine) Pearson; a special niece, Deborah Pearson of Dothan, AL; two special cousins, Betty Guy and Mercedes Curry both of Dothan, AL; god-sisters, Hazel Hill of Newark, NJ, Mildred Patterson of Bergen County, NJ, Cynthia Johnson, Joann Harris of Greer, SC and one god-brother Danny Gaskin of North Carolina; god-children, Robert J. Lucas of Newark, NJ, Michael Hughes of North Carolina, Syntha Hunt of New Jersey; spiritual son, Todd Mitchell; precious jewels of nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and church family members.

Funeral service will be Saturday, November 23, 2019 12:00 Noon at Upper Shady Grove Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.
