Greenville, South Carolina
Mr. Odis Gist, widower of Bessie Mae Gist, son of the late Silas and Cornelia R. Gist, Jr. formerly of Greer, passed Friday, October 21, 2022, peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. He retired from Homelite with many years of service. He was a United States Army Veteran. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening. He was a Prince Hall Masonic Lodge member, Lower Shady Grove # 291 and a member of the Order of the Eastern Stars.
He was preceded in death by his son, Birdell Hammond, granddaughter Sharon D. Cureton; siblings, James Gist, Resella Gist, Viola Gist, Azalee Gist, Silas Gist, Jr., Henry Gist Barbara Lavern, Richard Byrd and Punchis Butler. He was the last surviving member of his family.
Precious memories will forever linger in the hearts of his son, Randy (Barbara) Turner; four grandchildren, Mariam (Charles Jr.) Pinson, Lillian Renee (Oneal) Bailey, Stephen (Venita) Foster and Stacey S. Hammond; two great grandchildren, Canon J. Bailey and Tyrell M. Bailey; three nieces, Kathy G. Sullivan, Yvonne (Cookie) Butler and Carolyn G. Wood; three nephews, James E. (Squink) Gist, Jr., David Grayson and Waymond Gist; a cousin, Tommy Baker; daughter-in-law, Claudia Hammond and a host of family and friends.
Funeral Service will be Thursday, October 27, 2022, 1:00PM at New Hope Baptist Church with military honors and masonic rites, burial will follow in the church cemetery. Viewing will take place on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, from 4:00 PM until 6:00PM.
