Obituary

Taylors, South Carolina

To five of us she was known as Mom. To many she was a person full of strength, joy
and always willing to lend a helping hand. She was the heartbeat of our family.

The date was April 5,1943 that the Lord blessed the earth and gave to the late Ollie and
Gertrude Williams, Mattie Louise Williams. Who later became the wife of the late Jesse
Hellams Sr.

Their union was blessed and they shared 48 years of marriage. She was not only a
devoted wife, but also a great mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

Our home since has often been the gathering place for family meals and gatherings.
She loved her family. She was a "giver", always making sure that there was a gift for
the occasion. While Mom had a humble sweet personality, and was very softspoken
when she spoke, she said what she meant and meant what she said.

The Bible tells us to, "train up a child while they are young so when they are old, they
will not depart from it". Mom gained that early training at her church, St. Matthew United
Methodist Church, Taylors, SC, where she was a lifelong member. She sang with the
Young Adult choir which became The Gospel Jubileers, and the Senior Choir. She also
was a member of the hospitality committee, and The United Methodist Women.
Our Mom attended Lincoln High school and graduated from Class of 1961. The Lord
blessed her work as an employee of Brookline Carpets, Greenville General Hospital and
later Greenville Memorial Hospital, now known as Prisma Health, until her retirement in
2005 after 25 years of dedicated service.

She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2000 and was a 23 year survivor. Although
the way before her was not without times of trial, she considered both the peaks and the
valleys along life's journey to be a part of God's perfect plan for her life.
Over the past few weeks Mom waged a courageous battle for life. It is good to know
that she made it through VICTORIOUS! So, her final days on earth were spent
surrounded by her family. As God, would see fit, on the afternoon of Friday, August 25,
2023,at 4:37pm, our darling Mom, left her bed of sickness and put on her angelic wings,
where she now rest in the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

She now joins with the angels and her husband, Jesse Hellams, Sr. Her daughter
Bridget Hellams Nance, her son Jody Hellams, her grandson Chrishaun Hellams, her
parents Ollie and Gertrude Williams, her stepmother Lenedia Williams, her siblings,
Lillie Mae Garrison, Bobbie Jean Jones, and Thomas Ollie Williams.
Also left to cherish her memory is her sons Rev. Jesse (Lisa) Hellams, Jr of Taylors,
SC; Robert Hellams of Pelzer, SC, daughter Charlene Fant of the home, and grandson
Brandon (Nanna's Bunkin,) Hellams reared in the home. Thirteen grandchildren,
seventeen great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Goodnight Mom, we'll see you in the morning,
Jesse, Charlene and Robert
