Obituary

Lawrenceville, Georgia

Sister Lissie Fleming Smith, widow of the late Min. Robert Lee Smith, went to sleep in the Lord on October 28, 2020 at Emory Decatur Hospital in Decatur, GA. Born in Spartanburg County to the late Mr. Florence and Mrs. Bessie Cunningham Fleming on August 1, 1935. She was the youngest of her eight siblings, who were raised in the Sunnyside Greer community.

She joined the Zion Apostolic Pentecostal Holiness Church in Anderson, SC in 1976 and continued to be a faithful member until her decline in health. She loved the Lord and she loved her family dearly. She was a dedicated single mother to her only daughter (Diane) and worked hard to provide her with the best. She also helped raise her four grandchildren (Shell, Antionette, Richard, & Veronica), who fondly called her Mama. She reared great grands Monica and Cedric in their home, but also loved her great grands (Keyaire, Johnathon, Morgan & Carrington) who fondly called her Granny. Her youngest great grand Carrington was born on her birthday, August 1st, 75 yrs. apart in age. She was a machine operator in textile manufacturing. Sister Lissie was very gifted with her hands. She was a gifted seamstress, she loved to dress up and was known all around as being stylish from head to toe. She was an amazing cook and baker; she made her amazing biscuits from scratch just about every morning. She was well known for her chicken & dumplings, cornbread dressing, homemade sweet potato cobbler, blackberry cobbler, and sweet potato pies. She did a lot of cooking for the saints of her church. Sister Lissie also specialized in styling hair; she was a perm & press expert who did hair within the Greer community, in Anderson she did many of the saints' hair and all of her family's hair.

She was a dedicated member of the Zion Apostolic Pentecostal Holiness Church until her illness, she served in many facets, as a Minister's wife, Deaconess, and member of the Senior choir. Sister Smith as she was known, loved her fellow saints and was a talented singer who led many songs in the choir. She loved the Lord with all her heart and would share that love with everyone she came in contact with.

Sister Lissie could be found many mornings fishing, she loved to fish. She shared this passion with her grands and great grands by teaching them how to fish. She also affectionately cared for two of her favorite companions, Chihuahua dogs Ego and Sarah.

On March 24, 1973, she married the late Min. Robert Lee Smith whom she loved dearly until his death after 18 years of marriage. Rob and Lissie, as they called each other were two of the best dressed couples. Rob worked very hard to give Lissie whatever she desired. They traveled together, they did everything together, they were best friends. They lived in Greenville, SC and later moved into the house that Rob renovated to become their beautiful dream house in Anderson, SC where they lived until his death. After 28 years, they are reunited with the Lord.

After Sister Lissie's health declined, she relocated to Georgia where her granddaughter Antionette and her husband Marcus voluntarily became her primary caretakers for over 15 years. Antionette worked endlessly to personally oversee her care and the family would like to acknowledge this selfless act.

She leaves to cherish her memories a daughter, Diane F. Wiley of Greenville, SC; a sister, Eva Goldsmith of Detroit, MI; four grandchildren, Michelle (John) Smith of Berea, SC, Antionette (Marcus) Kirksey of Lawrenceville, GA, Richard Brooks of Travelers Rest, SC and Veronica Brooks of Charlotte, NC; six great grandchildren, Monica, Cedric, Keyaire, Johnathon, Morgan and Carrington; five great-great grandchildren, Kamylle, Chandler, Kamare, Cairo and Karter and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
