Woodruff, South Carolina

Lewis Morton, 81, of 390 Lot Switzer Rd, Woodruff, SC transitioned to his heavenly home on Saturday, November 18, 2023.  He was born to the late Joseph and Queen Esther Benson Morton on August 8, 1942, in Woodruff, SC.

He was educated in Spartanburg County Public Schools.  In 1958, Lewis moved to Glen Cove, NY.  He later relocated to Detroit, Michigan to work in the automotive industry with GM and Ford. In 1970, Lewis moved to Brentwood, Long Island, NY, where he joined New Jerusalem Baptist Church and served on the Deacon Board. Lewis was a master mason of St. Mark's Lodge No. 19, A.F. & A.M. and Queen Vashti Chapter No. 14, Order of Eastern Star of Brentwood, NY.

In 1988, Lewis and his family relocated to Woodruff, SC, where he joined Lower Shady Grove Baptist Church.  Lewis faithfully served on the Deacon Board and Male Choir prior to his declining health.

Lewis loved spending time with family, watching western movies, drawing, woodworking, and working in his yard.  Lewis was a master machinist for over 50 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Tron Morton, Brothers (James Morton, Roosevelt Morton, Eugene Morton, Joseph Morton, Ernest Morton, and Bennie Morton), and sisters (Mamie Lee Gray, Norma Robinson, and Thelma Morton).

He leaves to cherish fond memories: his wife of 49 years, Betty Jean Morton of the home;  Five (5) children, Lewis Reeder of Lawrenceville, Virginia, Michelle Bell, of Glen Cove, NY, Morae (Kenny) Cross of Woodruff, SC, Regina (Sidney) Poole of Roebuck, SC, and Christopher Morton of Roebuck, SC; 21 Grandchildren: Latoya, Krystal, Shareena, Jasmine, Eboni, Ashley, Aquila, Kai, Khalil, Alexis, Trinity, Kamaya, Kamiya, Heaven, Treasure, Zion, Zane, Azariah, Christin, Alisha, and Corrinne; Six (6) Great Grandchildren: Jaylen, Alyssa, Juan "LJ", Zayden, Ava, and Aubree; Goddaughters, Tawana Royal of Dacula, GA and Mailin Murray of Birmingham, AL.;  Sister, Lillie Mae "Teenie" Morton of Glen Cove, NY;  Brother in-law, David (Sandra) Morrison of Loganville, GA, and Sister in-law, Marie Jones of Covington, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

The family will receive family and friends at the home.  A viewing will take place on Saturday, November 25, 2023, from 2:00 PM until 5:00PM at Sullivan Bros Mortuary, Inc. and Cremation Centers of SC in Greer, SC.  Homegoing Celebration Services will be held Sunday, November 26, 2023, at 1 PM at Lower Shady Grove Baptist Church, 1552 Switzer Greenpond Rd, Woodruff, SC 29388.
