Greer, South Carolina

Mr. John L. Ward, husband of Barbara C. Ward, son of the late Alfreda W. Montgomery and John Washington, passed Sunday, January 15, 2023.

He was a Greer High School class of 1978 graduate.  After graduation, he defended his nation as a member of the United States Navy.  He retired from R.R. Donnelly LSC Communications and currently he was employed with Honeywell Aerospace.  In his spare time, he enjoyed traveling, spending time with his wife and daughter, watching his favorite movie "Top Gun", watching his Carolina Panthers play football, watching basketball, eating crabs and people watching.

Left to cherish fond and loving memories of John including his wife Barbara of over 33 years including his daughter, Latavia S. Ward of Greenville, SC and goddaughter Candace Gaffney of Taylors, SC; two bonus sons, Delvin Thompson and Tychaune Nash; two brother-in-laws, James Ricky Snoddy and Vinson (Toshia) Snoddy; two bonus daughters, Shontona Williams and Tiara Snoddy; along with other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his uncles James Ward, Lloyd Ward, Leonard Ward, Alfred Ward, Charles Ward and Alvin Ward, aunts, Emma Foster, Alma Ward, Lula W. Peterson and Edna Ward, grandparents, James Ward and Eula Ward.

Funeral service will be Saturday, January 21, 2023. 2:00 PM at New Jerusalem Baptist Church in Greer, SC with burial and military honors services to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.  Public viewing will be held on Friday, January 20, 2023, from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Sullivan Bros. Mortuary.
