Spartanburg, SC
Ethel M. Gilliam Cohen, The loving wife to her devoted Husband Nathan Cohen and daughter of the late Essic and Pearl Burnett Gilliam, made a peaceful transition at her home from earth to heaven on August 24, 2018.
She joined the church as a young child and was a faithful member of the New Hope Baptist Church. Ethel's life was dedicated to serving God. For God I live and for God I die. Mrs. Ethen Cohen was an inspiring Sunday School Teacher for over 40 years. She song praises to God with New Hope Baptist Church Choir or from her seat in the pews; when a song stirred in her soul. Mrs. Ethel was an Energetic Speaker and was on the top of many list as a Speaker for Women Day Service at surrounding area churches. If you asked her was she a preacher her answer was always, NO. God has not called me to preach, he just told me to serve. In 1958 she graduated from Florence Chapel High School. She retired from Spartanburg County District 5 School System (D R Hill), where her bright smile and kind words will always be remembered by the students that she encountered. If you ever met Mrs. Ethel you knew from her kindness and loving spirit that she was truly a Child of the Living God!
Surviving after 60 years together is her loving and devoted husband Nathan Joe Cohen; along with their children Heath Cohen, Daryl Cohen and Darnel Cohen all of Spartanburg, SC, Elgin Cohen of Myrtle Beach, SC, Lisa (Charles) Giles of Inman, SC and Benita (Gregory) Knowlin of Columbia, SC; 12 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; siblings Rosetta (David) Fryar of Mt.
