Mr. Erskine Fletcher Cooley, Sr. ,96, son of the late Roscoe and Inino Sullivan Cooley. A native of Greenville County, passed on Monday, February 20, 2017 at Southern Oaks Nursing Home.
Educated in the Greenville County Schools System with continued education at Voorhees College including studying Leather Craftsmanship. He served in the U. S. Army in World War II. After military service he returned to Greenville and opened a shoe repair shop on Broad Street. His entrepreneurial passion later lead him to the house moving business "Cooley & Sons" where he served the Greenville community for over sixty years.
He was a member of St. Philips Episcopal Church in Greenville and was a life member of Charles F. Gandy Jr. VFW Post 6734, Piedmont, SC.
Memories of Erskine Cooley will be cherished by his devoted son, Clarence "Truman" Cooley of Greenville, SC; a daughter, Betty Wright of Los Angeles, California; a sister, Dorothy Scott of Greenville, SC; three brothers, Grady (Joyce) Cooley of Mauldin, SC, James Wilson Cooley of Simpsonville, SC and James Walter Sweeney of Charlotte, NC; a sister-in-law, Willie Mae Cooley of Greenville, SC; 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Mr. Cooley was preceded in death by his sister, Bernice Pugh; The Cooley brothers (St. Elmore, Ira, Rubin C. Jesse, Archiedale and Alton).
Funeral service will be held at St. Philips Episcopal Church in Greenville, SC on Monday, February 27, 2017 at 2:00pm with burial in Greenville Memorial Gardens in Piedmont, SC.
