Douglas Klent Scott was born April 24, 1955 in Spartanburg, SC to Beulean Staggs and Silas Gist. On August 30, 2022, God dispatched his angels to bring him home to live in eternal peace. He was proceeded in death by his son, Douglas "Lamar" Scott, mother, Beulean Staggs, father, Silas Gist, and bonus dad, Boyce "Milky" Staggs.
He was a 1973 graduate of James F. Byrnes High School and a retired employee of Phil Chem.
Douglas was a faithful member and musician at Shiloh Baptist Church for most of his life. He also served and has served at Ray of Hope Reconciliation Ministries, White Hall Independent Methodist Church, and Rebirth Missionary Baptist Church. For over 40 years, he was a powerful lead singer of the Happy Land Singers, in addition to playing the keyboard and singing with the Gospel Crusaders.
Singing and singing with the Happy Land Singers was his passion. It was an awesome gift given from God. He loved every single member, past and present. He was loved my many, so much so to where he was given affectionate nicknames over the years such as Motion Man, Duckplucker, Happy, and Dougie Dawg.
Mr. Scott leaves to cherish fond memories, his wife of 44 years, Doris Scott, three daughters, Zondra (Stephen) Terry, April (Aaron) Davis, Shameeka (Steve) McConnehead, one son, Dequan Jones, and five grandchildren. He also leaves cherished memories with three sisters, Minister Wendy Drummond, Kathy Sullivan, Margaret Bradley, a special uncle, Otis Gist, and a host of Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, and Friends.
Funeral service will be Saturday, September 3, 2022, 12:00 Noon at Wellford First Baptist Church with burial to follow in Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery. Viewing will take place on Friday, September 2, 2022, from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Sullivan Bros. Mortuary Inc.,
