Shaker Heights, OH
Mrs. Dorothy A. Cohen Smith, widow of James L. Smith, daughter of the late Colie and Josephine Wallace Cohen, Sr., was born on January 8, 1935 in Spartanburg County, South Carolina. On May 7, 2018 she gained her heavenly wings.
Dorothy was better known to her family as Dothann. Dothann grew up in Duncan, SC. She moved to Cleveland, Ohio in 1956. Dotann was employed by the Kyman's from 1966 until she retired in 2008. While there with the Kyman's two children were born David and Holly. Dothann was much like a second mother to them and she was known as Dottie to the children. They grew up right along with Dottie children; spending a lot of time in their home.
Dothann was a member of Grace Community Seventh Day Adventist Church. She was part of the widow's ministry. She had a faithful friend Clara Huff that came and picked her up to take her to church. Whenever she came to visit, she would always attend church service at New Faith Baptist Church.
Dothann loved her children and grandchildren, but they all knew her love came from honesty and tough love. They knew that she would tell them what she thought. Her favorite thing to say before speaking on a situation, "I got nothing to do with it", then you would just have to sit and listen. She talked to her children everyday. When she called, you would have to tell her what everybody was doing in the house, what you had done that day and what you had for dinner.
Dothann enjoyed watching the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Cavaliers.
Left to cherish fond and loving memories of Mrs. Smith are her children Larry E. (Letetia) Cohen of Wellford, SC, Michael L. Smith of Capital Heights, MD, Deborah A.
