Taylors, South Carolina
Mrs. Dorothy L. King, daughter of the late John Henry and Edith L. Carson, Sr., transitioned from her earthly home on Sunday, November 16, 2025, to be with her Heavenly Father.
She was the fifth of seven children. She was a faithful member of New Salem Baptist Church and the North Enoree Association. As a member of New Salem Baptist Church, she served on the Usher Auxiliary. Her school lead her to complete most of her education at Lincoln High School. There she became Homecoming Queen 1967. Prior to her final year, school began to integrate, leading Dorothy to finish her final year at Blue Ridge High School. Moving to Blue Ridge High School, she became the first African American to attend the school. Leading her to be one of the first African American female graduates, class of 1968.
After graduating high school, she began working for Church and Dwight Pharmaceuticals, for many years; before the company moved to New Jersey. She retired working for American Security.
Her earthly chain maybe be broken, but she leaves her legacy behind. Left to cherish fond and loving memories include her son, William Carson of Taylors, SC; her daughters, Tracie (Russell) Burton of Greenville, SC, Lakesha King of Taylors, SC and Amanda (Phillipe) Hill of Duncan, SC; her brothers, Richard Carson of Greer, SC and Tim (Sharron) Carson of Taylors, SC; her sister, Molly (Lawrence) Kearney of Fayetteville, NC; her aunt, Mary Griffin (Bubba) of Greer, SC; seven grandchildren; one great-grand; along with a host of other family and friends.
Along with her parents, was preceded in death by her siblings, Paul Booker Carson, John Henry Carson, Jr. and Cynthia Ferguson; her niece Tasha Ferguson; her uncle Jeff Ballenger; grandparents Ellie and Bud Ballenger, her sister-in-law Jearldine Carson and her brother-in-law Lee "L C" Ferguson, Sr.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, 1:00 PM at New Salem Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing will take place on Friday, November 21, 2025, from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Sullivan Bros. Mortuary.
