David Earl Jones
David Earl Jones, affectionately known as "Suga Bear," was born July 17th, 1958, in Spartanburg, SC, to James Thomas White, better known as Tom Moore, and the late Geraldine Jones McCoy. David transitioned into glory on December 2, 2023, at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice House.
David grew up in the Wellford community and attended the James F. Byrnes High School class of 1976. He began his career as an EMT which fostered his love for helping others. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing fast-pitch softball, watching his Redskins, and attending Friday night football at Byrnes High. He worked for many years with Wellford City Hall as the facilities manager. He spent his days completing repairs throughout the city, and he was sure to share a joke and a laugh with everyone he met. David was an active member of the Mt. Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church, where he loved to serve the Lord and fellowship with his church family. David was a brother of the Prince Hall Masonic Lodge-Steuart Lee #367 and a past patron with the Prince Hall order of Eastern Stars Finley Chapter #231. He served as a devoted member of his brotherhood and the community. David loved his family dearly; his only daughter, Tiesha, was his greatest blessing and joy.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Geraldine Jones McCoy, stepfather Roy McCoy, sisters Bernice McCoy and Tina McCoy, and brothers Terrance McCoy and Lil Roy McCoy Jr, and uncle Samuel Jones.
He leaves to cherish his memories and continue his legacy, his father, Tom Moore, daughter Tiesha Spicer-Jones, and Clarence Spicer, whom he raised as a son. His dear friend, Sandra Spicer, two grandchildren, Mason Spicer and Zoey Spicer, sisters Lola McCoy, Joy (Bobby Rookard) McCoy, Machelle (Marshall) Gregory, Darlene (Kent) Anderson, Jane (Ken) Knox, Jacqueline (Marion) Drummond, aunt Lola (Samuel) Jones, and a host of cherished aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
