Carolyn S
Glenn
July 13, 1945 – February 6, 2025
Greer, South Carolina
Mother Carolyn Magdalene Staggs Glenn was born on July13, 1945, in Wellford, South
Carolina. She was the oldest child of the late Charles Oscar and Lillie Ruth Staggs. She departed
this life on Thursday, February 6, 2025, and entered eternal rest after a lengthy illness, joining her
recently departed brother, Charles Delano Staggs, in eternal rest. Carolyn married Robert Lewis
Glenn and through this union had three children.
Carolyn was educated in the public schools of Spartanburg District Five and graduated from
Florence Chapel High School, Class of 1963. She has always been high spirited and served as
a cheerleader during her high school years. After high school, Carolyn worked as a seamstress
and an inspector at Springs Industries. She always demonstrated a strong work ethic which she
instilled in her children and after 28 years retired from Springs Industries.
Carolyn accepted Christ at an early age and joined Shiloh Baptist Church where she served as
the financial secretary, on the usher board, as a youth advisor, on the choir, and taught Sunday
School. She had a love for children and displayed that love through her service in working with
young people throughout her life. Her goal was to expose children to as many life opportunities as
possible. In addition to making sure they had a relationship with the Lord, she planned trips and
other experiences for them and encouraged them to achieve their best. Carolyn further showed
her love for young people through her service as a Girl Scout Troup Leader. She made sure her
daughters were the top cookie sellers for several years. Her children continue to operate on this
high level of excellence as a testament to her setting that standard. Carolyn held high expectations
for her children and was proud of their achievements. They attribute her unwavering love and
support to their life successes.
When her daughter, Renea, began her pastoral journey at Life Center of Greenville, which was
subsequently renamed Restoration Church of Prayer, Carolyn moved her membership to support
her in ministry. Affectionately called "Mama Carolyn", she served as a part of the Mother's
Board (Wise Counsel) and prayed for and with the members of the Church. In addition to her
love for children, Carolyn held a strong affinity towards senior citizens. She could often be found
checking in on them, running errands for them, or just sitting with them.
Carolyn leaves to cherish her memories: her daughters, Tammy Renea Glenn of Greer, SC;
Rosalyn Lavearn, Glenn of Columbia, SC; her son, Robert Christopher (Toni) Glenn of Greer,
SC; her grandchildren, Christian Olivia and Joshua Christopher Glenn; her sisters, Cora Scott
and Charlene Tinsley of Wellford, SC, her sister-in-law, Linda Staggs of Wellford, SC; a host of
nieces and nephews who were as dear to her as her own children; two god-children that she helped
to rear, LaShonda Brewton Jones and Shameeka Scott-McConnehead; four god grandchildren
DeAdrian Bradley, Ian Jones, Allison and Avlyn McConnehead; and an adopted daughter of the
home, Bridgette Lee, all whom will miss her tremendously.
