Birdie Ruth McClintock Gist was born in Greer, South Carolina on August 22, 1945, to the late Rev. Harold Robert and Mildred Williams McClintock.
A Life Well Spent…
Birdie grew up worshipping at Startex Mission Holiness Church in Startex, SC. As an adult she worshipped at Enoree Fork Baptist Church in Greer, SC, where she was a member. She attended Lincoln High School in Taylors. She was retired from JP Stevens. Yet, her passion and talent, and what she felt was her gift from God was her many years serving as an in-home care worker throughout Upstate, SC. It is a gift that has (and
still) affects and will be remembered by so many families.
She was an amazing and loving mother to Eric D. Gist (Sheila) of Gaffney, SC, Kenneth D. Gist of Greenville, SC, and Frederick L. Gist of Duncan, SC. Siblings: Tommy Evans of Greer, SC and Roy Lee "Pete" (Maxine) of Spartanburg, SC. She also was the oldest sister to Fannie McClintock of Greer, SC and Rosie Miller of Wellford, SC. Her grandchildren include Rodrick Gastans of Greer, SC; Donquez Ross of Fayetteville, NC; Ta'Korya Gist of Fayetteville, NC; Ta'Quela Gist of Fayetteville, NC; great-granddaughter Kamari Thomas of Fayetteville, NC. Her adoring nieces and nephews include Donnell Gibbs of Dallas, Texas; Cynthia (Dean) Wright of Seneca, SC; Shondray R. McClintock of Spartanburg, SC; Shadrick Ballenger of Simpsonville, SC; Anita Jackson of Moore, SC; Yvonia Wright of Greer, SC; Deborah Holmes of Wellford, SC; and Donna Evans of Greenville, SC. Her aunt Ms. Shirley Williams of Greenville, SC. She also had a host of great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends whom she cherished.
Sunset...
Birdie Ruth Gist, 76, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, October 19, 2021. She was preceded in death by her father, Harold Robert McClintock, and mother, Mildred W. McClintock; her children, Deborah Veronica and Michael; and paternal sister Marsha Riser.
Birdie had an infectious smile and vibrant laugh that made all she encountered feel her love and light. She was kind, giving, devoted, and always concerned about those she loved. Hers was a life well-lived. She took care of everybody. She will be dearly missed.
Graveside service will be Sunday, October 24, 2021 2:00 PM at Fuller Temple Church Cemetery located 250 Finch Rd. Wellford, SC 29385. For those who are unable to stand for extended periods of time, please bring your lawn chair for comfort. Viewing will take place Saturday, October 23, 2021 from 3:00PM until 5:00PM in the viewing window at Sullivan Bros. Mortuary Inc.
