Mr. Bernard Hawkins Sterling, Jr., born April 5, 1988 in Chicago, Il; he was the 1st born son of the late Bernard Sr. and Marion Sterling.

At an early age, Bernard attended church with Aunt Doris, starting in Detroit and later in Charlotte, NC. During the years, Bernard continued his religious fellowship with his foster parents, Daryl and Nina Moore.

Bernard started his formal education in Chicago, IL and continued a large portion in Detroit, MI. After relocating to Charlotte, NC, Bernard Jr., graduated from E E Waddell High School, class of 2010.

Bernard was a fun loving person, who could be a handful at times. To have met him, was to have loved him!

He attended a day program (Empowerment Quality Care Services), five days a week. He never wanted to miss a day. He was active with his group and the staff.

Bernard loved dancing, watching TV and his miniature toy cars.

Bernard Hawkins Sterling, Jr.; a loving son, brother, nephew and cousin, began his Heavenly Journey at Novant Healthcare Matthews, on July 1, 2026 at 1:52 pm. He leaves to cherish his memory and legacy of Love and Strength, fondly missed by his sister, Rebecca Sterling; aunt, Doris Alton; foster parents, Daryl and Nina Moore; along with a host of 75 cousins and many, many friends.

Family that preceded him in death along with his parents Bernard Sr. and Marion Sterling; sibling, James Sterling; grandparents, Ned and O’Lillian Sterling, George Pratt Jr., Lou Berta Watson and great grandmother, Ruby Watson.

Funeral service will take place on Saturday, July 25, 2026, 11:00 AM at Sullivan Bros. Mortuary Chapel with burial to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
