Mr. Avery C. Blassingame, affectionately known as "Cliff", was born in Greenville, South Carolina on September 3, 1939, to Ella Luree Blassingame. He departed this life on October 19, 2023, peacefully in his home with his family by his side.

Cliff received his education in Greenville, S.C. public school system.  He is a proud alumnus of Sterling High School "The Torch" where he received his diploma, Class of 1959.  He was a member of a variety of school activities and clubs.

Cliff met the love of his life, Blondell Hawkins, while in high school where their love story began.  The two married December 24, 1959.  Cliff was extremely determined; he worked multiple jobs to provide for his growing family.  Two children were born to their union in 1961, Reco and Carletta.

Cliff received an invitation from his uncle Zelma Blassingame to visit Washington, DC.  When he arrived, he landed a job and moved his family to DC where his hard work and ambition flourished.  He became a successful entrepreneur with several business ventures.  He worked hard and played harder.  A workaholic indeed!

Cliff infectious laughter, character and personality had a way of drawing people to him.  His generosity and loyalty were shared by many.  He left a lasting imprint on everyone he met.

Cliff was predeceased in death by his mother Ella L. Orr and sister Ruby Sherman.  He leaves his memories to be cherished by his loving a devoted wife of 64 years, Blondell, son Reco, daughter Carletta and Grandson Demeeco.  His siblings, Shirley Fraiser and Tommy (Loretta), Jerry (Sue), nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other family and friends whom he cherished and loved!

Funeral service will take place on Friday, November 2, 2023, 12:00 Noon at Aiken Chapel Missionary Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.  Viewing will take place on Friday prior to the service starting at 11:00 AM.
