Anthony Gene Clark was born to the union of Rupert and Birtie Bruton-Clark on March 03, 1953 in Taylors South Carolina. Anthony was the youngest of four children. Both of Anthony's parents, his loving wife Betty Sue Clark, his brother Robert Lee Clark, sister Helyn T. Clark, nephew, Kerry Clark, grandparents, uncles, and aunts preceded him in death.
Anthony received his education at Lincoln School and Eastside High School. Anthony was an HBCU graduate of Allen University.
Anthony united with Betty Sue Spurgeon-Clark in 1972. To this union three children were born, Antoine, Carlesia, and Philip Clark.
Anthony accepted Christ at an early age at Enoree Fork Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend W.M. Lipscomb. He continued under Rev Harrison & Rev Sweeney then later joined New Jerusalem MBC, under the leadership of Pastor Steve Watson where he remained faithfully until his death.
Anthony was a member of the choir, singing was his passion, he sang solos for different occasions such as weddings, funerals, anniversaries and so on. In his early walk, he was Chairman of the Trustee & Deacon Board, Sunday School Teacher, and Choir Director. Anthony loved music.
Anthony played sports, such as basketball and baseball. Anthony was loved by everyone and showed love to all he knew. Anthony was a loving husband to his wife Sue and faithfully loved her until his passing.
Anthony was employed by Bi-Lo Distribution Center, and then retired from C & S after 46 years of service. Anthony will be remembered for his musical talents.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories, 3 children Antoine E. Clark, Carlesia L. Fenske,(Mark) and Phillip E. Clark, (Kimberly), 3 grandchildren, Mikayla R. Fenske, Elijah A. Clark, and Amiyah L. Clark, Sister, Elaine C. Carr of Pontiac Michigan, nieces, Loretta Clark-Hill, Tremetris Clark, Brita Robinson, Carolyn Edwards, Angela Carr, and a nephew Andy A. Carr Jr., 2 Sister-In Laws, Shirley Wilson (Roy), Mary Johnson (Charles), and 5 Brother-in -Laws, Willie Spurgeon (Ann), Roy Spurgeon (Edith), Thomas Spurgeon, Charles Spurgeon (Gail), Greg Spurgeon and a host of other close nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, and church family.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024, 4:00 PM at New Jerusalem Baptist Church. Public viewing will take place on the day of the service starting at 3:00 PM until hour of service at the church.
