Annie Mae King Sullivan transitioned peacefully at her home on Friday, March 9, 2018. She lived a full and beautiful life, surrounded by many family and friends. She was born May 7, 1918 to the late Andrew and Bessie Barton King in Tigerville, South, Carolina.
She was introduced to her late husband, John L. Eugene Sullivan, by his sister Edith Sullivan. They married in 1936. From this union, were five wonderful daughters. Eugene served in World War II where he was a prisoner of war. Mrs. Sullivan courageously served as a military wife, raising their daughters during a time when such devotion was not given the rightful appreciation to people of color.
Mrs. Sullivan was very active in New Salem Baptist Church. She served on the Usher Board, was a member of North Enoree Baptist Association, a Deaconess Eastern Star and Mother of the Church. Mrs. Sullivan was also the consummate social butterfly and community servant. She was a member of the Torch Barrier and Golden Girls Clubs. She would often volunteer as a reading tutor. She was famous for the many delicious treats she baked for her family and friends. She loved flowers and decorating.
She is survived by her daughters, Ann Sullivan Gaffney (Bobby), Ruby Sullivan Wilson, Maryam Sullivan Amrullah and Glenda Sullivan Rice (Clifford). She was predeceased by her daughter Robbie Thompson (Philip Sr.) Mrs. Sullivan was blessed to welcome 17 grandchildren, a host of great- grandchildren, and a new great-great grandson. She will be missed by her devoted sister-in-law, Colia Sullivan, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Mrs. Annie Mae King Sullivan, a life well lived and rejoiced in the blessings it provided. She leaves a legacy of faith and determination to be passed on to many generations.
Funeral service will be Saturday, March 17, 2018 12:00 Noon at New Salem Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will take place Friday, March 16, 2018 at Sullivan Bros. Mortuary from 5:00PM-7:00PM.
